About

Leezen Co., Ltd.

While Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation was trying to motivate more farmers to participate in organic farming, to rejuvenate the land, and to purify the souls, Leezen was founded in 1998. All stakeholders were bonded with a group of consumers who shared the same belief and were in support of their fellow farmers and producers. The producers, retailers, and consumers were grateful to each other and collaborated with integrity. A synergistic cycle was established between organic farming and LOHAS businesses.

Challenge

The challenges facing the enterprise

Leezen promoted its products on the official website – Leezen Every Day – and the mobile application for members. In the early stage of operation, it built the two hosts of Web and databases at the local end to run the official website and online store platform. In the face of promotion of the members’ App and changes in traffic during irregular events, it looked for a more stable and expandable Cloud platform.
It employed the highly stable AWS as the Cloud computing platform before long. As the previous partnering developer was neither familiar with Cloud environments nor in the process of contemplating corrections of programs, Leezen chose Nextlink to help move its hosts of official website and App to AWS. The services were partitioned and optimized so that the mobile application could accommodate tens of thousands of users at any one time during promotional events.

The solutions

Through Nextlink’s AWS Cloud migration services, the original structures of Leezen were partitioned and optimized. As the pre-existing program codes were left unchanged, the relevant databases and application services could be moved to AWS Cloud environments within the shortest possible timeframe.
Nextlink offered the following solutions:

Amazon CloudFront

It serves as a content delivery network (CDN) around the globe. It effectively stores the static contents on the website at global CDN nodes so that users can access the contents more efficiently and the connection loads on the original website can be reduced.

Amazon S3

It serves to store objects. It is where the static contents on the website are stored. It also allows Amazon CloudFront to access in order to increase the speed on the website.

AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB)

It balances the loads on the Cloud networks. The connections that require diversions back to the websites of origin are targeted. Such connection requests are accepted by ALB and then automatically and evenly forwarded to back-end server clusters of the original websites.

AWS Auto Scaling

It monitors applications and automatically adjusts the capacity. Once the loads on server clusters exceed the thresholds set by system managers, the backstage AWS would automatically execute mechanisms of server expansion, build new servers, and add ALB forwarding clusters so as to raise the systemic capacity of connections processing.

AWS Storage Gateway

It provides hybrid storage services. It is paired with S3 so that static resources can be alternatively stored in S3 through NFS services and sent via CloudFront without modifying the processes.

Amazon RDS

All processed results of related database services are written onto the backstage databases. The copies of databases can be accessed to allow flexible expansion beyond the restricted capacity of execution units in a single database. The heavy workloads as a result of high access rates can therefore be handled.

The benefits

  1. Leezen’s greatest concern was definitely the increased traffic on the website prior to the launch of the members’ App. The structures then could not handle the loads in time and caused suboptimal user experience. When the structures were originally deployed On-Premises, Leezen considered both server specifications and the formats of bandwidth multiplication. Consequently, huge fixed costs were incurred but the multiplied traffic amid specified events was still out of control.
  2. The monthly expenditure was cut by half owing to the structures deployed by Nextlink. The App and website could still operate smoothly even when the number of App members was twice as expected, when the number of visitors on the website grew by more than 50% compared to last year, or when the average daily traffic increased from 3MB/s to about 10MB/s. The costs were kept within the preset range and the entire operation could stably run without causing any concerns.
